Stew Burchard, Sculptor of Bronze

Stew Burchard was introduced to bronze sculpting in Tucson, Arizona, in 2001. As a retired engineer with only a rudimentary introduction to art in his youth, he undertook the journey into the realm of three-dimensional art with some trepidation. Experience with engineering modeling provided the basis for his desire to create accurate representations of his subjects.

Burchard’s migration from New England to the Southwest in 2000 lead to a deepening interest in the geography, topography and cultural and natural histories of the region. His art reflects his love of the natural world and a desire to honor the earth and those that live in close harmony with it; both human and animal. The challenge for survival for those whose very existence has become endangered is an ongoing inspiration to this artist. His artwork is intended to honor their contribution and their place in the universe.

What’s the difference between a “colored” piece and a “traditional” one? The “colored” sculpture has a multicolor patina and the “traditional” sculpture has a single patina (all one color).

The Healer

Collectors of art differ in their preferences, and so some of my pieces (two to date: The Strike and The Healer) are available in either version. The remaining pieces are finished traditionally.
